Bring your body back to balance.

Hands-on bodywork with a scientific approach. Muscle testing to find the real source of pain, fascial work to reorganize how you stand and move, and massage to keep you well. Something for everyone, at every stage of health.

The work

Three ways of working, one goal: less pain, better movement, more ease.

My work can be confusing from the outside, so let’s make it plain. Massage is what most people know. NeuroKinetic Therapy is a science-backed way of asking your body where the dysfunction is. Rolfing is a structured 10-session reset of posture and movement. You do not have to know which one you need — start anywhere, or call for a free 15 minute consultation.

NKT

NeuroKinetic Therapy

Science-backed muscle testing that asks the body where the dysfunction actually lives.

NKT taps into the motor control center of the brain. Using muscle testing — a tool from applied kinesiology — I can find the relationships and imbalances behind your pain instead of guessing at them.

Sessions are done over the clothes, are more accessible and less time consuming than a full body massage, and the pressure is rarely intense. The aim is to calm the system while it relearns.

This tool lets me find muscle structures that have "shut down" from scar tissue, joint compression or decompression, eye strain, jaw tension, pelvic floor dysfunction and breathing issues — using both your subjective feedback and objective testing, not only the spot that hurts.

Best forTargeted pain relief, stubborn recurring issues, post-surgical recovery

Rolfing Structural Integration session
Rolfing

Rolfing Structural Integration

Fascial work in a 10-session order of operations that reorganizes posture, movement and ease.

Rolfing is preventative care for people carrying many ailments and for people with no specific pain who simply want to move and live with more ease. Improved posture tends to ripple outward into energy, relationships and worldview.

It is excellent for athletes and body enthusiasts, and for those moving through grief, trauma or a changing stage of life, as well as more challenging cases needing a total reset of body and nervous system.

The process runs across 10 sessions, each focused on a specific region so every part of the body is addressed fully over the course of the series.

Massage Therapy

The tip of the iceberg — and often the doorway into everything else.

Massage is what most people already know, and it is a wonderful place to begin. Full body work is great for mood, circulation and preventative care.

I compare it to changing the oil and rotating the tires: necessary maintenance, but not always the most effective tool for pain. When you have a specific problem, I spend most of the session in that quadrant of the body.

Chronic headaches? Scalp, jaw, neck, arms and hands. Low back pain? Hip flexors, glutes, low back, feet and diaphragm. Every session begins by getting clear on your goal.

MacKenzie Carter, LMT

Massage Therapist · Rolfing Structural Integration · NeuroKinetic Therapy

I'm a manual therapist, athlete and body enthusiast. I have always been drawn to the healing arts, and laughter was the first medicine I was introduced to. I believe in the body's natural inclination toward health when it is given the right tools and enough space to use them, and in meeting people exactly where they are.

My journey began when I was too young to remember my age. My grandmother was skilled in herbal medicine, and together we nursed a baby bird back to life. From that moment I knew I wanted to help people, plants and animals return to health — and I saw that the road from sickness to health takes knowledge, resourcefulness and help from others.

Fifteen years of accumulating knowledge has led me to work with other professionals and build a community of like-minded people. I do not walk this journey alone. I believe every problem has a solution, and I love working with people who are motivated to learn more.

My dog Paco comes to work with me and is in the room for sessions. Life is better with a dog around.

Questions

Everything people ask before their first visit.

What do I wear to an NKT or Rolfing session?

Loose fitting clothing is best — no belts or pants that restrict movement.

How long should I wait until my next NKT or Rolfing session?

Three to fourteen days is appropriate; ten days to two weeks is average. When you are in pain it is best to disrupt the cycle by not waiting too long between sessions.

How long will it take to see results?

It is different for everyone, and the quality of your experience depends on how well you stick with the exercises and homework. Each repetition retrains your brain, so anchor them to a routine. Sleep is a major part of the retraining process, so relief often shows up after being dedicated and then resting. Don't try to make all your progress in one day.

How is this different from Physical Therapy or Chiropractic?

Both NKT and Rolfing are used by PTs, chiropractors and other healthcare professionals, and the end goal is the same: create space, improve movement, relieve pain. Chiropractic focuses on creating space at the joints; my work addresses the soft tissue and the brain that control where bones and joints go — a top-down approach targeting the source of pain.

Do you accept insurance?

No, but I can provide my MT license number so you can submit a receipt for reimbursement.

How do I know which modality is best for my situation?

Please call for a free 15 minute consultation.

What can I expect during a massage?

I like to focus the work. Full body massage is great for mood, circulation and preventative care, but if you have a specific problem I spend most of the session in that quadrant of the body — scalp, jaw, neck, arms and hands for chronic headaches; hip flexors, glutes, low back, feet and diaphragm for low back pain. We always begin by getting clear on your goal, and I use a few muscle tests early on to spot obvious imbalances.
